KITCHEN BASICS FOR A KITCHEN NEWBIE

What is the first thought that comes to your head when you step foot into a kitchen? Fear? Joy? A desire to learn something new? A sense of dread? Complete sense of loss? This is how I started when I first got a kitchen of my own. I had no idea what to do. None. It completely overwhelmed me. I looked for help online, but ended up even more confused. So, what did I do? The Food Network helped me gain a confidence to cook a meal in my own kitchen. That confidence turned into joy during the pandemic. Now, I created a free ebook to help anyone who has no idea what to do in a kitchen. Let’s call it Kitchen Basics For a Kitchen Newbie. Here’s an outline of what is in the free ebook.

KITCHEN ESSENTIALS

What exactly do you need in your kitchen? There are many lists out there, but I came up with a simple list. One that doesn’t have random cookware for one recipe or a gadget with a lot of parts. Here are a few things on the list:

  • measuring cups and spoons
  • knives and cutting boards
  • 9X13 glass casserole dish
  • cast iron skillet
  • blender
  • dutch oven
  • wooden utensils
  • mixing bowls
  • hand mixer or stand mixer
Drawn kitchen utensils included in kitchen basics for a kitchen newbie.

KEEP THE KITCHEN PRETTY

There is no better feeling than a clean kitchen. By keeping the kitchen clean, you can add personal touches that add beauty. It creates a space you will feel inspired to be in as well as a space you want to spend time in. A decorated recipe box, a bouquet of flowers or a canister add simple touches that make a kitchen feel pretty.

ONE CHICKEN FOR A WEEK OF MEALS

Included in my free ebook, I have a recipe for homemade chicken stock. Also, I have ideas to use a whole chicken from the store and how to stretch it out for multiple meals. For example, use homemade chicken stock for various recipes:

  • Ratatouille
  • Red Beans and Rice
  • Jambalaya
  • Soups

TIPS FOR USING CAST IRON

I share to care for a cast iron pan, different types of cast iron cookware, and various meals to use in cast iron in my free ebook. Having a cast iron skillet is an essential in any kitchen. You don’t have to be hesitant to use it. Need some inspiration? Check out my other posts on cast iron:
