To be honest, I am sick of wasting money on things I’m going to throw away. I might as well be throwing away money. My husband works very long hours and very hard to provide for our family. I want to honor this by finding ways to reuse common household items instead of buying disposable.
This is a wish list and a work in progress. I am still using the disposable version of some of the items I put on this list. But I am working on making a reusable replacement or figuring out how to make the switch. If you have switched to reusable on any of these, I would love to hear how in the comments!

CAST IRON
Buying cheap cookware will end up costing more money. They break easier or lose their coating, and then they will have to be replaced. Over time, you will be spending more trips to the store buying cheap cookware that leak the coating into your food. Cast iron is cost effective and a healthier option. And personally, food tastes better when cooked on cast iron. For simple ways to use cast iron in your kitchen, check my post here on using cast iron.
CLOTH NAPKINS
This is a great option instead of buying paper napkins. They’re beautiful and add a homemade touch to the table. Also, fitting into the theme of this list, very cost effective.
REUSABLE PAPER TOWELS
I confess, I need help here. This is what has inspired me to write this list. Paper towels are easy to use and for me to grab. I am open for suggestions and ways any of you have to get rid of buying paper towels.
CLOTH DIAPERS
I never thought I would consider this. Until I had my second baby girl and did the Built to Birth Course with Bridget Teyler. This woman is a God-send. She helped me become confident to in my body to deliver my baby how I wanted to. And I was able to give birth at a birth center with no epidural and go home after 4 hours! But she inspired me to try cloth diapers. The first time I tried it, she leaked and soaked her crib. So to be honest, I became discouraged. But I’m learning how to use cloth diapers again.
A BIDET
Once this was installed in our upstairs bathroom, I can’t imagine life without it! What a game changer. After a septic emergency, I convinced my husband to have a bidet installed. It not only saves a lot of money on toilet paper, but I feel so much cleaner. And it will help with cleaning off cloth diapers. I love when something can be used in multiple ways.
DISHCLOTHS
I simple way to add beauty to your kitchen is a homemade dishcloth. I learned how to knit after watching this beautiful lady. In the video, I learned how to make a dishcloth. It’s a wonderful feeling to use something everyday I made with my two hands.
REUSABLE TRASH BAGS
Talk about buying something to only throw away! Instead of having trash cans around the house with disposable trash bags, I only have one in the kitchen trash can. The other trash cans, I use liners (their main use is for cloth diapers) as trash bags. I wash them once a week and it works so well. It’s a great way to reuse common household items instead of buying disposable.

I have never thought of resuable trash bags. We use washcloths almost exclusively in our home. I cut and hem old towels to use and we buy maybe 6 rolls of paper towels a year anymore! Is a bidet easy to install? I’m very interested in that!

My husband installed it for me. He hooked up an another water line to run to the bidet set. I highly recommend it! I love it so much. We just got the bidet seat to install on the toilet, and we bought one at Home Depot.

So many good ideas! I’d never heard of reusable trash bags outside of cloth diapering, but that’s such a good idea. I also loveeee my cast iron pans!

Great ideas! I love the crocheted washcloths. And the cast iron pans. Thanks for the inspiration!
