As a homemaker, it is a full time job to keep the home clean. And just when everything is cleaned and spotless, someone puts a dish in the sink. How rude! It is not our job to create a sterile environment, but a space that breathes and flows. I tell myself this when I get overwhelmed with trying to keep everything clean. So, I gave myself some daily tasks to keep the house clean.
KITCHEN
- Unload the dishwasher in the morning
- Clean the counters, sink, and the table after every meal
- Put any prep dishes in the dishwasher and hand wash pots/pans
- Run the dishwasher at night
LIVING ROOM
- Clean up toys while dinner is cooking
- Fold up the blankets
- Swiffer the floors
LAUNDRY
- Run a load overnight
- Switch load to the dryer before unloading the dishes
- Put dirty clothes in the hamper
- Put away clean clothes after breakfast
BEDROOMS
- Make the beds
- Clear clothes and shoes off the floor
Here is a walk-through of a Monday.
I wake up, make the bed and open the curtains. Get myself ready and wake the girls. Once downstairs, I switch the clothes from the washer and dry them in the dryer.
I’ll start breakfast, unload the dishwasher while the food is cooking, and we’ll eat breakfast together. And then I start dinner if it needs to go in the slow cooker. I’ll put the breakfast dishes and the prep dishes I used to make dinner into the dishwasher.
By then, laundry is all dry. So I will fold the laundry at the kitchen table and put it away. When it is lunch, I’ll do the same thing. Cook, put away the dirty dishes, and clean the kitchen. By clean the kitchen, I mean clean the counters, table, and sink.
I like to have dinner on the table at 6. While it’s cooking, I’ll clean up the living room. The blankets get folded up and put on the back of the couch. I try to have my oldest girl help me put the toys away. When dinner is done, the dishes go in the dishwasher and I run it. I’ll wash the pots and the pans, wipe the counters, stove, table and sink. Then I’ll empty the trash. I go around with the Swiffer to get any crumbs or dirt that’s on the floor. To end the day, I’ll grab a load of wash, put it in the washer, and set it to delay wash so it will start in the middle of the night.

Sometimes its nice to have a list – and have some things just be automatic! Thanks 🙂

Thanks for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do some research on this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I’m very glad to see such great info being shared freely out there.
